Objectives:

Objectives:

Objectives:

• To develop new generation sensors for transversal or reference parameters such as temperature, pressure, pH and partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2), and integrate them into other commercially available sensors not being developed within the project
• To integrate the innovative specific sensors for the descriptors developed within the project (WP5 to WP8) into modular systems easily adaptable to the monitoring requirements and different deployment platforms depicted in the project.
• To validate all of the developed sensors and assemblages according to standards for marine waters and monitoring requirements.

Objectives:

• To develop precompetitive prototypes for the detection of nutrient analytes using well-established colorimetric chemistries for phosphate, ammonia, nitrate and nitrite.
• To design, fabricate and optimise microfluidic detector cells with significantly longer optical path lengths in order to achieve more efficient light coupling into and out of the optical cells/channels.

Objectives:

The main objective in WP5 is the design, development and integration of a marine litter sensor able to measure and quantify the surface concentration of microplastics in offshore environments. As described in previous sections, microplastics detection will be by optical interrogation techniques using a Multi-channel Photonic Device comprising:
•    Multispectral and hiperspectral imaging sensors
•    A multi-channel system based on optical absorption in the near infrared for Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR)
•    Spectroscopy (FTIR)
•    Nanophotonic system (NP) based on the molecular level recognition of the presence of the parameters that are intended to be detected.
•    A dedicated signal processing system based on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) device.
•    A mini seawater sampling system

Specific Objectives:

• To promote the project and its objectives, partners, funding, and activities, employing a range of communication and dissemination tools;
• To carry out scientific dissemination of COMMON SENSE results via publications, conferences, networks, external collaborations;
• To compile and identify the new knowledge and outcomes generated within the project;
• To enable better cooperation between key sectors by ensuring effective management and transfer of this new knowledge and technology, resulting in efficient uptake of results by stakeholders and end-users;
• To ensure technology transfer, using an integrated approach to facilitate commercialisation.
• To provide knowledge that contributes to relevant EU legislations, in particular the MSFD, but also the CFP and global initiatives such as GOOS and GEOSS.
